The Cavalry Museum is located in the
oldest building in Lappeenranta, built
in 1772 as a guardhouse in the southernmost
part of the fortification. Turned
into the Cavalry Museum in 1973, the
building has been under renovation for
the last few years, during which it has
been restored with care and respect for
its long history. The exhibition opening
in the summer of 2019, on the other
hand, has been entirely modernised to
meet the needs of today’s visitors.
It displays the history of the Finnish
cavalry in a broader and more varied
way than ever before. Narratives play a
significant role in the exhibition.
On display, you will see articles relating
to the cavalry from both times of
war and peace, not forgetting the
cavalryman’s best friend, the horse.
The Cavalry Museum offers a fascinating
and informative museum experience,
detailing the chapters in the history of
the Finnish cavalry.
